Namirial will participate in the Trusted Economy Forum CommonSign 2024 that is organized by Obserwatorium.biz. This flagship event brings together leading voices in digital identity, trust services, and electronic transactions to discuss key regulatory and technological advancements shaping the future of digital trust across Europe.

The Trusted Economy Forum 2024 is tailored for professionals in business development, marketing, and sales, particularly within the digital identity and trust services sectors. The event will attract trust service providers (TSPs), qualified trust service providers (QTSPs), industry leaders, and policymakers aiming to understand and navigate the latest changes in the European regulatory landscape and explore business opportunities in the expanding digital economy.

A central focus of this year’s event will be the recent EU Regulation 2024/1183, also known as eIDAS 2.0, which came into force on May 20, 2024. This regulation represents a significant update to the original eIDAS framework established in 2014, aiming to enhance the accessibility and security of digital identities for both individuals and businesses across the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA).

  • A Paradigm Shift for Digital Identity: The revised regulation enables universal access to trusted electronic identification and authentication, allowing people and businesses to securely engage in digital transactions across the EU and EEA. It paves the way for the widespread adoption of European Digital Identity Wallets (EUDIW), which will allow citizens to prove their identity and share electronic documents directly from their smartphones.
  • Cross-Border Compatibility: Under eIDAS 2.0, member states are required to recognize digital identity wallets issued in other EU and EEA countries, ensuring seamless access to services across borders without the need to use other identification methods or disclose unnecessary personal data.
  • New Trust Services: The regulation also introduces the legal framework for new types of qualified and non-qualified trust services, such as those certifying various attributes, further expanding the possibilities for secure digital interactions across Europe.

In addition to exploring the regulatory aspects of eIDAS 2.0, the event will dive into the broader implications of digital identity for businesses and individuals. The European Commission has set an ambitious target: by 2030, all EU citizens should have access to a digital identity. However, this goal faces challenges, with adoption rates in certain regions, such as Germany for example, lagging behind.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs has initiated a public consultation and innovation process to support the development of user-friendly, secure, and universally applicable European Digital Identity Wallets. The Funke Challenge EUDI Wallet Prototypes” competition, led by SPRIND, is working to develop prototypes of these wallets, with Phase 2 running from September to December 2024 and Phase 3 concluding in June 2025. Updates on the status of this competition and insights into the technical standards and best practices for wallet development will be shared during the event.

The Trusted Economy Forum 2024 offers a unique opportunity for professionals to engage with the latest trends and regulatory updates shaping the digital identity landscape. With topics ranging from the impact of AI in combating eID fraud to the development of post-quantum trust services, this event is an essential platform for those looking to understand the future of digital trust in Europe. Attendees will gain insights into the commercial and operational opportunities that eIDAS 2.0 brings, with discussions on sustainable business models for trust service providers and digital wallet solutions.

Jörg Lenz, Head of Marketing and Communication, and Antony Skarlatos, Key Account Manager, are looking forward to contributing to these discussions and exploring the future of digital identities and trusted transactions in Poland and in Europe.
