Meet Namirial at Money 20/20

flag country Netherlands Amsterdam

Money 20/20 Europe is the European edition of the global fintech event series focusing on payments and financial services innovation for connected commerce at the intersection of mobile, retail, marketing services, data, and technology. The global event series originated in the United States in 2012 and runs a popular edition in Asia too.

The European edition became a major catalyst driving innovation in the European financial industry in recent years. Mastering the complex regulatory challenges in digital onboarding, in particular in the field of remote identity proofing and fulfilling compliance requirements imposed by EU Anti-Money Laundering Directives (AMLD4, AMLD5, AMLD6) and their different interpretation when transposed into national laws became one of the major topics in recent years of Money 20/20.

In 2025, the interplay between remote identity proofing and qualified digital trust services remains a key focus as the European Digital Identity Framework takes shape. With the adoption of the revised EU Regulation 910/2014 on electronic identification and trust services (eIDAS 2) now finalized, implementation efforts are accelerating, particularly regarding the European Digital Identity Wallets (EUDI Wallets).

On March 26, 2024, the EU Council approved the final version of eIDAS 2.0, paving the way for the rollout of the EUDI Wallet.

By 2026, all EU member states must provide their citizens with a digital wallet and accept European Digital Identity Wallets (EDIWs) from other member states, ensuring seamless cross-border recognition of digital identities.

The revised regulation marks a fundamental shift in Europe’s approach to digital identity. It aims to provide individuals and businesses with secure and universally recognized electronic identification and authentication.

Under the new framework, member states will offer their citizens and businesses digital wallets that connect national digital identities with verifiable credentials, such as driver’s licenses, educational qualifications, or bank accounts. This will enable users to authenticate themselves and share electronic documents conveniently via their smartphones.

The EUDI-Wallets will allow all citizens to access online services using their national digital identity, which must be recognized across the EU. This eliminates the need for private identification providers and prevents unnecessary sharing of personal data.
