The imh KURS Banking Summit is one of the leading events for the digitization of banking processes in Austria. At this summit of the financial industry, CDOs, CTOs, CIOs, Directors for digitization, innovations and IT, heads of specialist departments and managers for processes and sales meet for an interdisciplinary exchange on current challenges.

One of the most important future topics of the conference is regulatory change: The European Commission, the European Council and the European Parliament want to adopt the revision of EU Regulation 910/2014 on electronic identification and trust services (#eIDAS) in the first quarter of 2024. Work on the implementing acts will take place in spring and summer 2024. From autumn 2026, citizens in the EU member states will have the right to use digital wallets with their national digital identities (“EU Digital Identity Wallet”) and to link their identities with proof of other personal attributes (e.g. driving licence, certificates, bank account, etc.). To this end, four large-scale pilot projects are running until 2026 – including with Austrian participation.

This presents a number of opportunities and challenges for Austrian banks. The identification of customers will be simplified across Europe on the basis of common framework conditions. This will make it much easier to onboard customers from abroad, while at the same time intensifying competition on the Austrian market. Work is currently underway on the technical details, standards and best practices for the provision of attributes and functionalities of the wallet.

Klaus Fellner, Managing Director of Namirial GmbH, will shed light on the opportunities and challenges for Austrian banks in the session “The European digital identities are coming” on 5 March at 14:00. The presentation will be held in German language.

On both days of the conference, imH KURS participants will be able to talk to eKYC and signature experts Klaus Fellner, Stefan Weninger and Daniel Peischl at the Namirial stand about the regulatory, technical and organisational aspects of using electronic signatures and find out how to quickly achieve a very high level of acceptance and use of the various processes among customers and employees.
